2004 Farm Tour

On November 16 the District hosted its Annual Farm Tour.  One of our stops was the Icelandic Seafood company in Cambridge, Maryland.  They are the largest importer of frozen fish for the food service industry in the United States.  In their state-of-the-art plant we observed how the seafood products arrive, how fish sticks, fillets, and many of their other products are produced, and how the food is packaged.  In order to tour their facility our group had to don protective clothing, including head coverings.  We were able to get a feel of how cold their freezers were and watched the traditional assembly line run.  Afterward, we boarded the bus and headed for Pickering Creek Audobon Center, north of Easton, where we saw the conservation practices installed there with help from Talbot Soil Conservation District.

Our staff and guests thoroughly enjoyed this informative trip to Cambridge, which included lunch at the Golden Corral Restaurant.
